Nature Preserve
Little Jerusalem Badlands State Park spans 330 acres in Logan County, Kansas, about 25 miles south of Oakley, showcasing 220 acres of dramatic Smoky Hill Chalk badlands with towering 100-foot spires, cliffs, narrow canyons, pinnacles, and hoodoos resembling ancient Jerusalem's walls and streets.
Owned by The Nature Conservancy in partnership with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks since opening in 2019, it protects unique Niobrara Chalk formations from an ancient inland sea 85 million years ago, rich in fossils like giant clams, oysters, swimming reptiles, and soaring pterosaurs.
Open year-round during daylight hours with scenic overlooks and two hiking trails, off-trail access requires guided tours; it supports rare Great Plains wild buckwheat, ferruginous hawks, cliff swallows, native reptiles, amphibians, and prairie habitats.
