Reservoir
Waconda Lake, also known as Glen Elder Reservoir, is a large reservoir in Mitchell and Osborne counties, Kansas, formed in 1967 by the Glen Elder Dam on the Solomon River for flood control, irrigation, and recreation.
Covering up to 12,600 acres with 100 miles of shoreline when full, it supports excellent year-round fishing for walleye, crappie, white bass, striped bass, and catfish, alongside boating, camping, hunting on over 12,000 acres, and hiking at adjacent Glen Elder State Park.
The park features modern facilities like cabins, a heritage village with historic displays, and good access roads near Glen Elder town, drawing visitors for water sports and wildlife viewing amid fluctuating water levels managed by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation.
