Quebec 01 Missile Alert Facility State Historic Site, located 25 miles north of Cheyenne near Chugwater, Wyoming, preserves the world's only publicly accessible Peacekeeper Missile Alert Facility, originally built in 1962 as a Minuteman I launch control center for F.E. Warren Air Force Base and upgraded through Minuteman III before conversion in 1986 to control 10 Peacekeeper ICBMs—America's most powerful nuclear missiles with 10 warheads each—until deactivation in 2005.
Transferred to Wyoming State Parks in 2017 and opened for guided tours in 2019 after U.S. Air Force restoration, visitors descend 50 feet underground past an 8-ton blast door into the submarine-like capsule housing authentic consoles where two-person crews endured 24-48 hour alerts monitoring systems and simulating launches during the Cold War.
Designated a National Historic Landmark in 2023, the site offers immersive exhibits on missile technology, daily missileer life, and nuclear deterrence history amid the remote prairie.
