Nestled in the rugged Blue Ridge Mountains with Appalachian Trail access, it features steep terrain, mossy boulders, deep trout streams like Rocky Fork Creek, waterfalls, cliffs, swimming holes, and biologically diverse forests ideal for hiking 19 miles of trails, mountain biking, rock climbing, fishing, hunting, and backcountry camping.
Opened in 2015 and named for Senator Lamar Alexander in 2019, the park offers primitive recreation with ongoing developments like parking areas and future visitor facilities amid wild rhododendrons and scenic overlooks.
