Park
Terra Ceia Preserve State Park spans nearly 2,000 acres in Manatee County, Florida, north of Palmetto near Tampa Bay, protecting mangrove forests, tidal creeks, salt marshes, freshwater wetlands, and upland hammocks in various stages of restoration from former agricultural use.
Co-managed by Florida State Parks and the Southwest Florida Water Management District since 1995, it safeguards water quality, shorebird nesting sites, pre-Columbian archaeological remnants, and the historic 1909 Haley House amid diverse habitats for birds like herons, egrets, ibises, and vultures.
Accessible primarily by foot from gates off Hightower Road or US 41, visitors hike about nine miles of trails including the Pine Flatwoods Loop, Salt Flat Spur, and Hammock Loop to a three-story observation tower, paddle the 3-mile Bishop Harbor Blueway by kayak or canoe from an unimproved ramp, fish in Terra Ceia Bay, and picnic; open sunrise to sunset with no restrooms or fees, leashed pets allowed.
