Art Museum
Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West, opened in January 2015 in Scottsdale, Arizona, is a 43,000-square-foot museum dedicated to the art, culture, and history of the American West, Western Canada, and Mexico.
Conceived by former Scottsdale mayor Herb Drinkwater and operated by a nonprofit organization, the museum showcases diverse exhibitions that tell the stories of Indigenous Peoples, Spanish and Mexican settlers, and Western pioneers through art, artifacts, and interactive experiences. Architecturally designed to reflect Western themes, the museum includes eight galleries, a theater, a sculpture courtyard, and a museum store.
It is a Smithsonian Affiliate and has been recognized as one of the nation's best Western museums. The museum’s mission emphasizes storytelling to illuminate the past and connect visitors with the heritage and ongoing cultural exchanges of the region.
