Lake
Wilson Lake is a large reservoir located on the border of Russell County and Lincoln County in north-central Kansas.
Created and managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers primarily for flood control, recreation, and wildlife management, it covers over 9,000 acres of water and is surrounded by more than 13,000 acres of public land. The lake offers excellent opportunities for boating, fishing, and swimming, with well-maintained parks including Lucas Park, Minooka Park, and Sylvan Park along its shores, each featuring hiking trails, camping facilities, and swimming beaches.
Wilson Lake is especially known for bass fishing, including smallmouth and striped bass, attracting anglers year-round. The surrounding lands feature native prairie, woodland, and a variety of wildlife habitats, including protected areas like the Wilson Wildlife Area. Geological points of interest such as sandstone formations and fossil sites add to the area's natural appeal, making Wilson Lake a popular outdoor recreation destination in Kansas.
