Park
Abilene State Park is a 529‑acre Texas state park located about 16 miles southwest of the city of Abilene in Taylor County, along Lake Abilene and the banks of Elm Creek.
The park sits in a wooded, rolling‑hill area of the Texas Midwest, shaded by pecan, red oak, cottonwood, and elm trees that create a cool, shady oasis in the otherwise open plains. Visitors enjoy camping in a mix of tent and RV sites, swimming in a large historic pool built by the Civilian Conservation Corps plus opportunities for swimming in the lake at your own risk, and fishing in Lake Abilene and a small fishing pond without a license when fishing from shore.
The park also offers picnic areas, a bird blind, playground, sand volleyball court, and about 1.5 miles of hiking and biking trails, including an ADA‑compliant half‑mile route, making it a popular family‑friendly destination close to the city of Abilene.
