Lake Mineral Wells State Park and Trailway spans 3,282 acres in Palo Pinto County, Texas, about 4 miles east of Mineral Wells along U.S. Highway 180, protecting the Western Cross Timbers ecosystem and including the 640-acre Lake Mineral Wells impounded in 1921.
Opened in 1981 with a 20-mile trailway for hiking, biking, and equestrian use connecting to downtown Mineral Wells, it features Penitentiary Hollow's steep sandstone canyon, rock climbing walls, boating ramps, fishing for bass and catfish, swimming beaches, birdwatching, geocaching, and primitive camping amid post-oak woodlands and hilly terrain that drew 165,211 visitors in 2022.
