Park
Big Bay State Park spans 2,350 acres on the eastern side of Madeline Island, the largest of Wisconsin's Apostle Islands in Lake Superior, accessible by a short ferry from Bayfield and featuring dramatic sandstone bluffs, caves, a 1.5-mile sandy beach, sphagnum bogs, lakeside dunes, and old-growth hemlock forest where bald eagles nest annually.
Established in 1963, it offers over nine miles of hiking and nature trails including a mile-long accessible boardwalk, a family campground with 60 sites (some with electric hookups and walk-ins), group camps, picnic areas with grills and toilets, showers, swimming, kayaking, fishing, and winter snowshoeing or skiing.
