Park
Big Bend Ranch State Park is a massive, remote Texas state park in far West Texas, stretching along the Rio Grande in Brewster and Presidio counties on the U.S.–Mexico border and covering roughly 310,000–355,000 acres, making it the largest state park in Texas.
The park features rugged high‑desert mountains, steep canyons, vast open plains, and the river itself, offering a raw, undeveloped wilderness experience for hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders, and off‑road adventurers who explore its hundreds of miles of multiuse trails and dirt roads.
It is designated as an International Dark Sky Park, so it is also known for exceptional stargazing under very dark night skies. The park has a small visitor center at the Barton Warnock facility near Lajitas and limited camping and day‑use areas, focusing on solitude and challenge rather than intensive amenities, and serves as a wild, less‑visited complement to nearby Big Bend National Park.
