Park
Big Spring State Park is a 382‑acre Texas state park located on the edge of the town of Big Spring in Howard County, about 36 miles east of Midland in the arid plains of West Texas.
The park sits on a 200‑foot limestone bluff at the edge of the Edwards Plateau, offering expansive views across the Southern High Plains, Rolling Plains, and the city of Big Spring, all visible from a scenic loop road originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s.
Visitors come mainly for picnicking, nature study, and sightseeing, using the park’s pavilions, picnic areas, playground, restrooms, and paved loop road that circles the mountain and is popular for jogging and cycling, while enjoying a small visitor center and interpretive opportunities rather than water‑based recreation.
The park is also known for its large Fourth of July fireworks display and other seasonal events, making it a community‑oriented outdoor space in the heart of West Texas.
