Park
Copper Breaks State Park is a 1,900‑acre Texas state park located in the Panhandle Plains of Hardeman County, about 10 miles south of the town of Quanah near the Red River.
The park sits in a semi‑arid landscape of rugged red‑rock canyons, mesas, and juniper‑lined gullies formed by erosion of an ancient inland sea, bordered by the seasonal Pease River. Visitors enjoy hiking, biking, and horseback riding on about 10 miles of trails, fishing and swimming in Lake Copper Breaks and Big Pond, camping, birdwatching, and stargazing under some of the darkest skies in the state, with the park also home to part of the official Texas State Longhorn Herd.
The area preserves thousands of years of human history, from Native American use to cattle‑trail days, and stays quiet and remote despite being within a few hours’ drive of major West Texas and Oklahoma cities.
