Park
Davis Mountains State Park is a 2,700‑acre Texas state park located in the Davis Mountains of Jeff Davis County, about three miles northwest of the town of Fort Davis at roughly 5,000–6,000 feet elevation.
The park sits in a high‑desert “sky‑island” setting with cool temperatures, evergreen oak woodland, and grass‑covered slopes that stand out from the surrounding Chihuahuan Desert. It is one of the earliest Civilian Conservation Corps projects in Texas, featuring an adobe‑style lodge called Indian Lodge, scenic Skyline Drive with overlooks, and more than six miles of hiking trails plus separate equestrian routes in the Limpia Canyon Primitive Area.
The park offers camping, picnicking, stargazing, and wildlife and birdwatching in a remote, mountainous corner of West Texas, with easy access to Fort Davis National Historic Site and the McDonald Observatory.
