Devil’s Sinkhole State Natural Area is a 1,860‑acre protected area in Edwards County, Texas, located a short drive northeast of Rocksprings on the western edge of the Edwards Plateau.
The site centers on a spectacular vertical limestone sinkhole roughly 50 feet wide at the top and about 350 feet deep, which is one of the largest single‑chambered caverns in the state and a designated National Natural Landmark.
The sinkhole is home to several million Mexican free‑tailed bats that live there from spring through fall, emerging in huge, swirling columns at dusk, and the park is managed as a bat‑ and karst‑focused nature preserve where visitors can only view the cavern from an overlook along guided, reservation‑only tours, not by entering the cave itself.
