Dillard Mill State Historic Site

Dillard Mill State Historic Site, Missouri, United States

Park

Dillard Mill State Historic Site in Crawford County, Missouri, preserves a striking red water-powered gristmill built between 1904 and 1908 by Polish immigrants Emil and Mary Mischke on Huzzah Creek, replacing an earlier 1850s mill destroyed by fire.

Originally called Mischke's Mill and powered by an innovative turbine rather than a waterwheel, it ground grain and later shifted to cattle feed production under subsequent owners until closing in 1956 amid economic changes. The 132-acre property, acquired by the L-A-D Foundation in 1974 and leased to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources since 1975 with dedication in 1977, offers guided tours of the restored machinery, hiking trails, picnicking, fishing, and scenic Ozark views as a National Register-listed day-use site.
