Park
Garner State Park spans 1,420 acres along the Frio River in Uvalde County, Texas, near Concan, about 90 miles west of San Antonio in the scenic Frio Canyon, opened in 1941 and named for Vice President John Nance Garner with development by Civilian Conservation Corps Company 879.
Nestled amid limestone cliffs, deep canyons, bald cypress trees, and crystal-clear river waters, it draws families for swimming, tubing, paddling, canoeing, fishing, and boating, plus 16 miles of hiking trails including steep rocky paths to overlooks like Painted Rock.
Popular traditions include summer jukebox dances at the pavilion, camping in RV/tent sites or cabins, picnicking, mini-golf, geocaching, biking, birdwatching over 200 species, and nature study in this biodiversity hotspot of the Edwards Plateau.
