Ruin
Ha Ha Tonka Castle in Missouri was an impressive early 20th-century stone mansion designed to resemble a European castle, built by wealthy Kansas City businessman Robert McClure Snyder Sr. Construction started in 1905 with European stonemasons brought in for authenticity, but Snyder died in a car accident in 1906 before its completion.
His sons finished the castle by the 1920s, and it served as a family summer home and later as a hotel. The castle was largely destroyed by a fire in 1942, leaving only stone ruins that now overlook the Lake of the Ozarks. The surrounding land was purchased by the state in the 1970s and opened as Ha Ha Tonka State Park, where visitors can explore the ruins, alongside springs, caves, and natural features. The ruins serve as a poignant reminder of a dream unfulfilled and are a key attraction within the park's scenic landscape.
