Authorized in 1945, it features oak savannas, prairie grasslands, fens with rare wildflowers, and river bluffs up to 150 feet high, offering five miles of hiking trails like the Meadow Trail Loop with footbridges, spring wildflowers, fall colors, and overlooks of the prairie and U-shaped creek valleys.
Visitors enjoy canoeing and fishing on the river, picnicking in shaded areas, 32 semi-modern campsites including 11 with electricity and four walk-in sites, plus winter snowshoeing in its peaceful southwestern Minnesota setting.
