Lake Shetek State Park in southwestern Minnesota covers 1,109 acres along the western shore of Lake Shetek, the largest lake in the region at nearly 3,600 acres and headwaters of the Des Moines River, located about 4 miles east of Currie.
Established in 1929 with ties to the 1862 U.S.-Dakota War including a historic monument and Koch Cabin, it features nearly 7 miles of lake shoreline, Loon Island connected by a causeway, restored prairies, old-growth forests, and wetlands teeming with pelicans, deer, foxes, and wildflowers.
Visitors enjoy swimming at sand-bottom beaches, fishing for walleye and pike from piers, boating with rentals, 14 miles of hiking trails, modern campgrounds, year-round cabins, and winter snowmobiling on 5-mile trails.
