Lewis and Clark State Park, Missouri, United States

Park

Lewis and Clark State Park in Missouri covers 189 acres on the south shore of 365-acre Lewis and Clark Lake (also called Sugar Lake), an oxbow remnant of the Missouri River in Buchanan County near Rushville.

Named for the 1804 expedition explorers who noted the area teeming with geese, this Missouri Department of Natural Resources park established in 1934 offers family-friendly picnicking, playgrounds, a stone shelter built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, modern camping April through October, fishing, boating, and birdwatching for herons, eagles, swans, and egrets in wetlands and prairies.

Hiking trails like the paved White Connector loop past former fish hatchery sites and river bottom habitats draw visitors to this peaceful spot 20 miles southwest of St. Joseph off Route 138.
