Locust Creek Covered Bridge State Historic Site, Missouri, United States

Park

Locust Creek Covered Bridge State Historic Site in Laclede, Missouri, features the state's longest surviving covered bridge at 151 feet, built in 1868 using the innovative Howe truss design with white pine beams and iron rods.

Originally spanning Locust Creek as part of Route 8, one of America's earliest transcontinental highways used by California Gold Rush migrants, it served local traffic for wagons, horses, and later cars until bypassed in 1930. Acquired by Missouri in 1968, restored with a new roof and flooring, and elevated six feet in 1991 to prevent decay, the site now offers public access for viewing this National Register of Historic Places landmark managed by the Department of Natural Resources.
