Park
Long Branch State Park in Missouri occupies 1,828 acres across three units adjacent to Long Branch Reservoir in Macon County, about two miles west of Macon off U.S. Highway 36, offering access to the 24-mile shoreline lake created in 1980 by a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dam for flood control and recreation.
Established in 1983 through a long-term lease with the Corps and managed by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, it provides boating with three ramps and a marina store, excellent bass and crappie fishing from coves and an accessible dock, a sandy swimming beach with volleyball, modern camping, picnic shelters, playgrounds, and hiking trails through prairie remnants and Chariton River Hills Natural Area alive with wildflowers and birds like indigo buntings.
This northern Missouri gem amid rolling farmlands draws families for water sports, wildlife viewing of deer and turkey, and a remote feel despite easy highway access.
