Monument
Morgan Morgan Monument in West Virginia, USA, also known as Morgan Park, is a small 1.05-acre roadside park in Bunker Hill, Berkeley County, along U.S. Route 11 near Mill Creek.
This granite obelisk, erected in 1924 with $5,000 from the West Virginia Legislature and dedicated on September 13 by Governor Ephraim F. Morgan—a descendant—honors Welsh pioneer Morgan Morgan (1688–1766), traditionally recognized as the first permanent European settler in present-day West Virginia around 1726 or 1731 on a 1,000-acre grant.
The site, first maintained as a free public tourist camp by the state road commission, commemorates Morgan's roles as a justice, vestryman, and church founder amid early frontier development.
