Carhenge in Alliance, Nebraska, is a unique roadside attraction built in 1987 by Jim Reinders as a replica of England’s Stonehenge, but made entirely from 39 vintage American automobiles painted gray to mimic the original stones.
It was created as a memorial to Reinders' father on the family farm and features cars positioned upright in pits, with some welded to form arches, closely following Stonehenge’s proportions and dilapidated appearance. The site has grown to include additional auto sculptures and serves as both a quirky art installation and popular tourist destination, drawing thousands of visitors annually.
Owned by the city of Alliance since 2013, Carhenge has been featured in films, commercials, and music videos, becoming a symbol of playful creativity and Americana.
