Park
Lowden State Park covers 207 acres along the Rock River bluffs in Ogle County, northern Illinois, north of Oregon, established in 1945 as a memorial to Governor Frank O. Lowden who served from 1917 to 1921.
Formerly the site of the Eagle's Nest Art Colony, it features Lorado Taft's iconic 50-foot "Eternal Indian" statue—a massive concrete-reinforced tribute to Native Americans, often linked to Chief Black Hawk—offering stunning overlooks, especially at sunset from Illinois Route 2.
Visitors enjoy four miles of moderately difficult hiking trails through scenic woodlands, picnicking, fishing, boating, water skiing, hunting, camping with limited electricity and showers, plus birdwatching during migrations amid wildflowers and diverse habitats.
