Morrison-Rockwood State Park encompasses 1,164 acres of rolling hills and dense woodlands north of Morrison in Whiteside County, northern Illinois, established in 1971 and named for the nearby city, Rock Creek, and its heavily wooded "Rockwood" terrain.
Its centerpiece is Lake Carlton, a stream-fed reservoir formed in 1969 by a 38-foot-high earthen dam across a tributary, offering prime fishing, boating with no-wake limits, boat rentals, and abundant waterfowl like ducks and geese amid hardwoods of hickory, ash, oak, and walnut.
Visitors enjoy hiking and biking trails, picnicking at Lakeview shelters, camping, hunting on 950 acres for deer, turkey, small game, and birds among over 150 species, plus winter ice fishing and cross-country skiing in diverse habitats with rabbits, squirrels, foxes, coyotes, and prescribed burns for wildlife.
